DAMVAD have analyzed the possibilities of including non-formal education in the National Qualifications Framework of lifelong learning (NKR). Our findings show that it is difficult to include the non-formal educations in the NKR among others due to the way the non-formal educations are currently recognised. High productive construction companies have a 50 pct. higher productivity level than low productive construction companies, they survive longer, their employees have a longer work experience, a higher education level and they have a DKK 45.000 (Euro 6.000) higher income per year. The productivity of green enterprises is at the same level as the productivity of comparable, non-green enterprises. Furthermore, green enterprises belong to a group of highly productive enterprises in Denmark. These are the results of a new DAMVAD analysis commissioned by the Danish Energy Authority. The share of exports from the Danish wind industry has increased from dkk 38 bn. in 2006 to dkk 52 bn. in 2012. This is an increase of more than 35 pct. meaning the wind industry has experienced an export growth in line with the private sector as a whole. Highly skilled foreign employees are scarce in Danish companies, even though a main source for talent is found in our neighboring countries. The present study provides insight into the domestic requirements of highly skilled foreigners and relates this to knowledge strongholds possessed by firms in the Capital Region. The Dropout Study shows that the students’ decision to drop out rests on three main reasons; academic, education-related, or personal issues – but very often combined in a way that one thing leads to another. A high expertise level in science courses and a heterogenic composition of study groups are some of the main reasons for dropout. The mapping of Danish research in ICT shows that the Danish researcher holds knowledge strongholds in four out of 27 ICT related areas, and that the Danish research community performs better than the OECD average on as many as 20 out of 27 areas. A questionnaire survey among international students and PhDs shows that career guidance as well as social and cultural linkages to Norwegian society matter for the probability of the students to settling down and getting a job in Norway. A new report from DAMVAD concludes that it is possible to increase the value added in the forest-based industries in the coastal region of Norway. The analysis show that the forest owners and different parts of forest-based industries in the coastal region are less interconnected than in the rest of Norway. An evaluation of the research program, NABIIT, which funds research in nanotechnology, biotechnology and ICT under the Danish Council for Strategic Research, shows that the scientific quality is high and several projects have delivered scientific break-throughs. Yet, the number of technical breakthroughs is low, and commercial benefits of the projects limited. Thus strengthened commercialization efforts are important to increase value to society.
